It is a rare but serious injury, typically caused by trauma such as a fall onto an outstretched hand or a direct blow to the forearm. Surgical: Most Monteggia fractures require surgery to realign and stabilize the ulna and reduce the dislocated radial head. Internal fixation (plates, screws, or rods) may be used to stabilize the ulna fracture, and the radial head is repositioned.
